Accessing The Pet Fostering Service

If you are a woman fleeing domestic violence by going into refuge and you live in either Sussex or Kent you can access the pet fostering service at the Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare.
We take referrals from both agencies and/or directly from the owner, providing they can provide confirmation that they are fleeing domestic violence i.e. an email or letter from a case worker, the police or social services.
We will then ask you to complete a variety of forms which include pet information form and a legal contract.
Once this information has been received we will endeavour to place your pet temporarily in a loving family home with a volunteer foster carer. Your pet will be reunited with you once you are settled and are able to have it back.
Placements vary in length, an average stay is between 6 months. During this period you will not be allowed see your pet.
During the placement we will provide food and veterinary treatment free of charge (subject to terms and conditions)
All placements are strictly confidential.
Becoming A Pet Foster Carer

We are always looking to recruit new Foster Carers in Sussex and Kent.
There are many reasons why people choose to foster pets i.e. they have recently lost a family pet or are not in a position to home a pet permanently.
We have Foster Carers from all walks of life and we value each one equally.
As a Foster Carer there is no cost to you as we provide food, equipment and pay for veterinary bills. During the placement help is always just a phone call away.
We ask you to sign up for a minimum of 6 months.
All placements are strictly confidential and the pet owner has no contact with their pet during the placement, but we do provide the owner with updates and photos via the pet fostering co-ordinator.
If you are interested in applying to join our team please either download the application form (.doc file) or call Emma Ham on 01825 880478.
