ADOPT a bird
Occasionally, birds such as budgies, cockatiels, lovebirds, canaries, and finches arrive at Raystede and we need to find them new caring aviary homes. In most cases, parrots and parrot-like species who are here at Raystede have too many behavioural problems to be rehomed. They live the rest of their lives with us.
As with all our animals, the aviary team only rehome our birds when we have found a suitable match and home environment for them to go to. All our birds need good quality, spacious and secure homes with the freedom to fly and not a caged life.
We also take special care:
- To not rehome birds with breeders or where a child would be the primary carer.
- To ensure that birds will have access to warmth in winter, such as a shed.
- To ensure that there is a safety porch to prevent escapees; birds rarely return home after escaping and often perish.
Each year we look after thousands of geese, ducks, chickens and other wildfowl. Whilst some will remain at Raystede for the rest of their lives, many are available for adoption.
We regularly rescue ex-battery and ex-barn hens, all of whom need new loving homes where they can be free to do what a chicken does best!
