Lakes & walks
Something not to be missed at Raystede is our wildfowl sanctuary. There is always a lot to see at any time of year. Our two lakes provide both a permanent sanctuary for ageing geese in our care and are also a magnet for regular migrants such as Canada geese, Greylags and ducks including Aylesburys and Muscovies.
In spring walking around the lakes we recommend looking out for nesting boxes and their occupants, which include robins, tits and bats.
It is a great way to relax, sitting by the lakeside and feeding the birds with mixed corn, always available at our Reception, or from the corn dispenser located in the sanctuary.
Also at the Sanctuary we care for injured or orphaned wild birds, giving them veterinary care, nursing them back to health and then releasing them back into the wild.
