Sanctuary News

Monday 30 April

Our visitors to the Sanctuary would have noticed that our pens are empty as we have re homed all our hens from our last chicken rescue to lovely new homes, which will make it possible for us to take in more girls at the end of May. So, if you are thinking of keeping chickens this year then please help us by re homing some of our girls as they are wonderful layers and great characters. Even if you just need some advice about keeping chickens then please contact us at Raystede. We anticipate having lots of lovely free range eggs for sale again in our shop at the end of May.

Dexter, our wonderful friendly Aylesbury, has also gone to a fantastic ‘forever home’ with a lovely lady who is spoiling him rotten. He is a wonderful duck and will be missed by staff and the regular visitors to Raystede . But, he is so happy and has made lots of friends to splash about with and waddles with an air of attitude in his new home.

On a sad note we did lose one of long standing geese in the Sanctuary last week, Ozzie had been with us for at least ten years. She was a Brecon Buff goose and lived with her partner a Chinese goose in one of our pens in the Sanctuary. She was a firm favourite of mine and the staff here at Raystede and we will miss her greatly.

Wendy Holford,

Sanctuary and Wildlife Manager.
