Raystede Rabbitry
We are two special needs bunnies looking for a caring, knowledgeable home.
My name is Charlie and I am a four year old, New Zealand white cross, neutered buck. I’m slightly larger than your average sized bunny and I must say I am quite lazy and like to spend my time relaxing with my girl Bracken and watching the world go by. I started my life in a laboratory and it has left me rather fearful. I do have trust issues and can be quite shy on occasions, but I am learning that there is love in the world and my carers are very supportive and affectionate towards me which in turn is beginning to make me feel quite inquisitive about the world around me. I would need nurturing and understanding and above all patience, I am a strong lad and don’t have any health problems.
Hello, my name is Bracken and as you can see big is very beautiful, I know I am special and I am proud of my size and my extremely gorgeous looks, I am a Steel Grey British Giant doe, two and a half years old and love life, (because everyone loves me). I like strokes and tickles and feel I have to give my fans what they want, so I am more than happy to while away the time stretched out beside the carer who is giving me all the attention. I have special needs when it comes to finding a new home; I need to be able to live indoors, but also to be able to go out in the garden to graze and stretch my legs on warm sunny days. In my previous home I suffered with very sore feet (Pododermatitis), and because of my size and the living conditions it proved very difficult to treat my feet and clear up the sores, and apart from one scab I am now clear of sores but unfortunately due to the long-term infection, I developed Osteomyelitis (infection in the bone), which has now been treated, but may have left me with secondary arthritis. I will always need a cushion floor rather than concrete or laminate type flooring. Carpeting is ok for me and if my lad and I had our own area indoors maybe some extra layers could be provided (and it would be very much appreciated). I do need medication some days for pain relief and I will always have medical needs, to some degree, but I am a very contented happy girl, who loves life, and her handsome lad. Oh! by the way I love my food!
If anyone feels they would like to offer these two lovely special Bunnies a home together, or would like to sponsor them, please call Leigh, or a member of the Small Animal Team on 01825 880467 for more information.
Rabbits available for rehoming, updated June 2nd
Here are a few of our rabbits available, click on a photo for more information. If you would like to rehome one of our rabbits please read our re-homing policy and our procedure.
We do currently have at Raystede a few single rabbits looking for homes where they can go to companion rabbits. Please contact the small animals department for more information about them.
Raystede Rabbit Runs
This is the minimum sized run recommended by Raystede; 12' x 12'.
Using aviary panels, a large rabbit run can be constructed both cheaply and quickly and moved around a garden easily.
Fruit netting would be a cheap option for use as a cover for your run, but something stronger and sturdier would be needed regarding
predators, if they would be a potential problem.
Re-homing policy for Rabbits
Our re-homing requirements for rabbits are :
- We always re-home in pairs as rabbits should not live on their own.
- We only re-home single rabbits as a companion to an existing rabbit.
- A hutch of at least 6ft x 2ft x 2ft (12 square foot) for 2 medium/large rabbits (a garden shed or wendy house can be used instead).
- All day long access to a secure garden
OR an enclosure of at least 12 feet x 12 feet (144 square feet) if it is to be their only outside space
Raystede will only re-home a rabbit where:
- There are no children under 7 years old living in the home
