Meet Gilly Tait, one of the incredible runners joining #TeamRaystede at the Brighton Half Marathon this March.
This will be Gilly’s second time running for Raystede, and her passion for animals and for making a difference shines through with every step. We caught up with Gilly to hear what inspires her to take on this challenge and why supporting animals in need means so much to her.
Want to join Gilly and the other runners as part of #TeamRaystede? Sign up before Friday 30 January to make sure you don’t miss out!
I decided to take part in the Brighton Half Marathon because I absolutely loved the experience last year. The atmosphere, the support and the sense of achievement were incredible, and it felt even more meaningful knowing I was running for a cause I care deeply about. Coming back for 2026 was an easy decision, I couldn’t wait to do it all over again and continue supporting Raystede.
Yes, I completed the Brighton Half Marathon in 2025, and that really sparked my love for long distance events. I’ve fundraised for Raystede several times over the years, including taking part in the '50 Miles in May’ challenge for a few years running. I also join in with the weekly Raystede lottery and I’m a monthly donor, so the charity has become a regular part of my life.
I’m a huge animal lover, and as someone with rescue pets, including four dogs who mean the world to me, Raystede’s mission is incredibly close to my heart. They’re a local charity doing amazing work for animals who need safety, care and a second chance. Supporting a charity that is not only nearby, but whose values truly align with mine, makes it all the more special.
Absolutely! The Brighton Half Marathon has such a welcoming, positive and uplifting atmosphere. Whether you’re aiming for a personal best or just want to challenge yourself, the crowd support and coastal scenery make the whole experience unforgettable. There’s something really powerful about running for a cause and feeling the community come together, I’d recommend it to anyone thinking about giving it a try.

It is important to me because every animal deserves love, safety, and compassion. Knowing that my fundraising can genuinely change an animal’s life makes every mile worth it. My own rescue pets have brought so much joy into my life, and supporting Raystede is my way of giving that same chance to animals still waiting for their forever homes.
The Brighton Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 1 March 2026 and Raystede has limited places available.

Raystede depends on the generosity of supporters to continue rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming animals in need, animals like the woodland kittens Bramble, Ash, Fern, Foxglove and Bluebell.
These tiny kittens were found abandoned in a box in woodland, vulnerable and in desperate need of care. Thanks to the compassion of the kind person who brought them to Raystede, they were given a chance but it’s the ongoing support of our community that makes their recovery possible.
Without donations, animals like these kittens may never receive the vital medical treatment, warmth and safety they need to survive and go on to thrive. Your support helps turn fear into comfort and abandonment into hope.
Every pound raised by runners choosing to take on the Brighton Half Marathon for Raystede goes directly towards lifesaving animal welfare work, helping vulnerable animals get the second chance they deserve.
