The Sanctuary area and dog walk around the lakes are currently closed until the Autumn due to the Project Terrapin construction work.
The Aviaries close at 2pm every day for the welfare of our birds.

Guinea Pig Awareness Day - 23 September 2023

Pop to Raystede between 10am to 4pm to learn more about how to keep guinea pigs happy and healthy.

Are you curious about how to care for guinea pigs? Want to know what sort of space they need to thrive? Wondering why guinea pigs need to live in pairs or groups?

In connection with this year's Guinea Pig Awareness Week (25-29 September), Raystede will be hosting a range of guinea pig-themed activities on Saturday 23 September. From a learning trail and activities to talks, if you've ever wanted to learn more about caring for guinea pigs, Raystede's Guinea Pig Awareness Day is the perfect opportunity!

Guinea pigs make wonderful pets if you give them the right care and attention and we've got all the answers! Plus, a whole load of family fun to help expand your knowledge of these amazing animals.

Come along between 10am to 4pm and enjoy the following activities:

  • Visit our learning zone and pick up some top tips on how to keep your guinea pigs happy and healthy.
  • Join our guinea pig talks at 11am and 3pm where we will be de-bunking some of the most common myths!
  • Complete the family trail and learn to speak guinea pig.
  • Stock up on healthy guinea pig food, treats and toys in our pet shop.

Guinea Pig Awareness Week, or GPAW, is a week of activities from 25-29 September dedicated to improving the health and welfare of guinea pigs. Raystede is delighted to be a partner for the 'Rescue and Rehome' theme this year.

Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing some top tips on how to care for guinea pigs, show you what makes guinea pigs great pets, and feature some of the gorgeous guinea pigs currently in Raystede's care who are looking for their forever homes.
