Raystede History Researcher

What is a History volunteer?

Raystede was officially founded as a charity in 1952 and therefore, 2022 will be our 70th anniversary. We are looking for someone who would enjoy sorting through our ‘archive’ of historical material about Raystede. This could be working alone or possibly with a small group of volunteers. We are seeking to collect interesting information and stories about Raystede over the past 70 years. This might be used for our magazine, on display material or in our social media posts. We will also be seeking local publicity about Raystede’s anniversary. It may be possible to put up a small exhibition about Raystede’s history and our activity today, both on site in our meeting place and in local towns. Our archive includes many documents, maps, photographs, publications, booklets produced by our founder, Miss Raymonde-Hawkins, tape cassettes, films and other recordings.

What are the benefits to you?

· An interesting and unique role

· Being part of a friendly and dedicated team

· Learning new and useful skills

· Discount in our café and on pet goods

What is the time commitment?

Variable time commitment that fits into your lifestyle

What’s involved?

· Sorting through our archive boxes

· Classifying and documenting items in the archive

· Creating a timeline of Raystede’s history based on the archive and other information available

· Suggesting suitable ways to use the material in publicity or other initiatives in the community

Who is this suitable for?

This role is suitable for someone with an interest in animal welfare who likes research and local history. You will be organised, meticulous and able to group materials together with an eye to how they can be used externally to promote Raystede.
