The UK Government have applied an Avian Influenza Protection Zone across the UK. This means that we must close our Aviaries to the public until the restrictions are lifted.
We do NOT have this virus at Raystede but we are required to put in place a range of measures to protect our birds. We are still open and welcome visitors to the rest of the site – please book your ticket.

Adopt ducks & geese

Adopting through a rehoming centre can take a little extra time and patience, but the rewards are worth it.

Bird adoptions

Due to the increasing number of cases of avian influenza nationally, we ask that adopters follow the current DEFRA guidelines regarding housing. Please contact the Small Animals team for further information.

Before you start your journey...

Adopting an animal is a big decision. Before you apply, have you thought about what is involved? Take a look at our adoption & care guides to learn how to look after your new animal and what to expect during your adoption journey.

Step 1: Submit your application form at the bottom of this page

Please complete an application form to tell us about your home, lifestyle, experience, and the type of pet you are hoping to share your life with. If you are having difficulties with our online form, please call our Customer Services team on 01825 840252; they will be happy to assist you.

Due to the high volume of enquiries we receive, we are not able to respond to every application but please be assured we have your details.

Step 2: Wait for the magic to happen

When animals arrive at Raystede, we get to know them through behaviour and medical assessments. Our expert animal care teams carefully use this information alongside your application to see if the match could be a success.

If you spot an animal you think might be a match, there is no need to submit another application form. To highlight your interest, please email us at info@raystede.org.

Finding the perfect animal can take time. Please be patient; they will be worth the wait.

Step 3: An invitation to Raystede for a rehoming appointment

You will be invited to Raystede to meet any animals who might suit your home. We will discuss the animals' background, health and behaviour. This sometimes requires a few visits. Please note that booking a visitor ticket to Raystede does not enable you to meet an animal you are interested in adopting.

Step 4: Take your new pet home

Once you are ready to adopt your perfect partner, we will book an adoption appointment; our Rehoming Team will talk you through caring for your animal. Your adoption fee will help us continue our work to give animals a better life.

The real adventure begins when you take your new animal home! Our team are here to help if you need any extra support with your adopted companion.
