Meet Raystede’s London Marathon Heroes

We are thrilled to introduce you to our brilliant team of runners who bravely ran the 2026 TCS London Marathon to help local injured and unwanted animals in need.

The TCS London Marathon is the biggest marathon in the world, and for the first time in our charity’s 74-year history, we had places in the event!

Thanks to the incredible efforts of Clare, Mark and Becky, Team Raystede has raised more than £6,000 for animals in need.

Read below to find out who our history makers are and why they chose to take on this immense challenge.

Becky

I decided to take on the London Marathon for Raystede after adopting my cat, Pacino, from them 6 years ago. Pacino was found as a stray in Brighton and was nursed back to full health by Raystede, and I am now completely besotted with him.

I was so impressed by the care given by Raystede to him and the adoption process as a whole. I know the costs involved in keeping charities like Raystede afloat and wanted to do my bit to help other animals like Pacino.

Mark

After taking on the Hove Prom 10k in October 2024, this is my second run for Raystede, but by far my biggest – nothing beats the London Marathon!! And being able to do this in support of such a fantastic charity makes it feel even more special.

My wife and I adopted our cats, Ginny and Albus, from Raystede a couple of years ago. So, I decided to reach out to fellow Raystede adopters and in return for a donation, I added their pets’ names to the paw prints on my vest. Running with a top full of Raystede animals meant the world to me!

Clare

I chose to run the London Marathon in memory of my mum, Cathy, who passed away last year after a four-year battle with cancer. She was an incredibly determined person and a passionate runner, so taking on this challenge felt like a fitting way to honour her.

I wanted to run for Raystede because it’s a place that means a lot to me and my mum. We loved visiting together and seeing the animals so well cared for, including the lovely goat I sponsor, Frankie. Animal welfare is something we both care deeply about, so being able to support Raystede while running in her memory feels very special.
